Radiance™: (calcium Hydroxylapatite) (5-7 years minimum) New Collagen and BOTOX replacement: Calcium hydroxylapatite is a naturally occurring component of bone and teeth and, as such, appears to have no risk of allergy when used as an implant. It is synthesized in 25-45 micron diameter sized microspheres for use by injection in augmentation of the larynx and as a soft tissue (e.g., skin) market for surgical placing. It is FDA approved for both of these uses. It has been used in Europe for the past few years as a tissue augmentation substance for the treatment of depressed defects on the face, e.g., expression lines, scars, acne and lip enlargement. We are presently treating patients at our offices for the above purposes. The procedure is performed in comfort by a small gauge needle injection after the application of a topical anesthetic cream. Smile lines, marionette lines, forehead lines, and depressed scars can be treated. Substantial correction will be noted on the day of the procedure due to implantation (injection) of the material. The permanent effects (at least 5-7 years) occur over the next few months as the patient’s skin tissue expands by producing more collagen. Studies suggest that the microspheres disappear over 5-7 years, leaving increased collagen as a truly permanent effect. Touch up treatments may be required at times.
